How do I count words on a page?

Select any text and the count appears instantly as a small pill next to your selection. Click the pill for the full breakdown: words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and reading time.

You can also open the toolbar popup for whole-page stats, paste text there for an instant count, or right-click a selection and choose "Count words in selection".

How do I turn the pill or the typing counter off?

Open the toolbar popup (or the settings page) and switch off "Count as I select" or "Live counter on text fields".

The typing chip also has a small menu: snooze it for 30 minutes or turn it off, and both are reversible with one click.

Where do my stats live?

In the Geek Stats card, saved only on your device. They never leave your browser, and they disappear when you remove the extension.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Counting and translation both happen entirely on your machine: translation uses Chrome's built-in on-device engine. The extension makes no network requests at all. You can read the details in the privacy policy.

How does the translation work?

When you select text in another language, WordPulse shows the translation on a chip right under the count. It uses Chrome's built-in on-device engine, so your text never leaves your device.

The first time you select a new language, click "Turn on" once and Chrome downloads that language pack, a one-time download. After that, translations work offline. Pick your language under "Translate to", and download more languages any time from the settings page.

Why does the count differ from another tool?

Different tools count differently. WordPulse treats dashes as separators, counts hyphenated words as one word, keeps decimals and URLs whole, and counts Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text per character, the way word processors do.

Which languages does the interface support?

English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), French, German, Indonesian, and Turkish, with a right-to-left layout for Arabic.

How do I update or remove the extension?

Updates arrive automatically through Chrome. To remove it, right-click the toolbar icon and choose "Remove from Chrome", or visit chrome://extensions.

If you do remove it, Chrome will open a short feedback page. It is optional, and I read every reply.
