Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
This policy covers the Chrome extension WordPulse by Totally Bug Free and the website totallybugfree.com. It may be extended with a section per product as more extensions ship.
The short version
We collect nothing. Your text never leaves your device.
What the extension does with your text
- Counting happens entirely inside your browser. The extension has no servers and makes no network requests of any kind.
- Text you select, type, or paste is processed in memory, on your machine, only to produce the counts you see. It is never transmitted, never stored, never shared.
- Translation, when you turn it on, also happens entirely on your machine: it uses Chrome's built-in on-device engine. The first time a language is used, Chrome itself downloads that language pack once; the extension never fetches anything.
- There are no analytics, no advertising, no accounts, and no cookies.
What is stored
- Your settings (for example: selection pill on or off, theme, reading speed) are saved in Chrome's extension storage. If you have Chrome sync enabled, your own browser may sync these settings through your Google account. That sync is standard Chrome behavior performed by Google for you, and we never receive a copy of it.
- A small local tally of what you have counted with the extension (total words, characters, selections, pages and typing sessions, and the date of your first count). This powers the "Geek Stats" panel and lives only on your device. It is never transmitted, and it disappears when you remove the extension.
- Nothing else is stored.
Permissions, and why each one exists
- contextMenus: adds the two right-click options (count selection, count page).
- storage: remembers your settings.
- activeTab: lets the popup read the current page only at the moment you open it.
- Page access: the extension runs a small script on pages so the count can appear the instant you select text. That script never sends anything anywhere, and it is the reason the counter can work at all without you clicking.
What we never do
- We never sell, transfer, or share any data, because we do not collect any.
- We never read your text for any purpose other than showing you its counts.
Uninstall feedback
If you remove the extension, Chrome opens our feedback page at totallybugfree.com/uninstall and asks whether you would like to tell us why you uninstalled. That is optional and entirely up to you. If, and only if, you press Submit, whatever you wrote is emailed to us so we can improve the extension. Nothing from that page is sent automatically.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will appear at this page with a new date.
